Independence Police continue to investigate a pair of fatal collisions Sunday, one involving a bicycle and the other involving a motorcycle.
The names of both cyclists have not been released, pending family notification. Police did not say if either cyclist was wearing a helmet.
The first incident happened about 2:45 a.m., Sunday at the intersection of Emery and College streets, a block south of U.S. 24. and east of Noland Road. According to police, a bicyclist traveling south on Emery failed to heed the stop sign and rode into the patch of a 2004 Jeep Cherokee driving west on College. Emery Street ends at College at that intersection.
The bicyclist was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Jeep driver was not injured.
The second fatal collision happened about 4 p.m., Sunday, on Main Street just north of 23rd Street. A motorcyclist heading south on Main tried to make a left turn and drove into the path of a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the Tahoe driver was not injured.
