An Independence man will spend more than 16 years in federal prison for producing child pornography.
Travis Howard White, 24, of Independence, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays Wednesday to 16 years and three months in federal prison without parole for using a 13-year-old girl to produce child porn.
White had pleaded guilty to the charges in July 2018.
White and the victim initially met on Facebook in January 2016, and the girl began exchanging explicit text messages and nude photographs with him at his direction.
According to court documents, when the victim’s mother moved to Kansas City in September 2016, they stayed at a hotel for a few days. The mother then returned to Kansas and left the victim with White.
When police learned she was living with White, they placed the victim in emergency police custody on March 1, 2017.
According to court documents, White then told investigators he had sex with the victim numerous times between September 2016 and March 2017. He also told police he had engaged in similar sexual discussions with approximately “50 to 100” other females, many of whom were minors. Investigators identified approximately 12 underage females White had engaged in sexually explicit chat and online communications.
