COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track and Field’s Roberto Vilches (Mexico City, Mexico) earned a bronze medal in the high jump at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru on Friday. Vilches, who represented his home country of Mexico, finished third with a clearance of 2.26m (7-4.75).
His mark was just under his personal best mark of 2.27m (7-5.25), which he set at the Mizzou Spring Open (April 6). Vilches recently completed his debut season at Mizzou with a pair of All-America honors, earning a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 7) and a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 9). Vilches is the indoor school record holder in the high jump, as he broke Mizzou's 42-year-old school record at the Missouri Intercollegiate (Jan. 11) with a jump of 2.26m (7-4).
