Independence Police say they have found the suspect vehicle and identified a person of interest in connection with Sunday morning's fatal hit-and-run on U.S 24.

Misty Collins, 30, died after she was hit by a vehicle while walking along the south shoulder of U.S. 24 at Kiger Road in northeast Independence, off the eastbound lanes. The vehicle, which police had believed to be a black older-model pickup truck, possibly a 1995 to 2002 Chevrolet S-10 or GMC Sonoma, immediately continued along eastbound U.S. 24 after hitting Collins. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Police used surveillance video from nearby businesses and received a hotline tip to help locate the vehicle and identify the person of interest. The case remains under investigation.
