The Jackson County Environmental Health Division inspects sites where food is served outside Independence and Kansas City. Recent inspection results in Blue Springs:

The Big Biscuit, 530 N. Missouri 7, inspected July 22.

• There was black buildup on the interior of the ice machine. Corrected on site. There was dried food debris on the can opener blade. Corrected on site.

• Wet wiping cloths were stored on the counters. Correct by Sept. 20.

• The back door was left cracked open. Corrected.

• Failure to provide valid food handler permits for seven employees. Correct by Aug. 21.

Extended Stay by Welcome Inn, 901 N.W. Jefferson Court, inspected July 23 and July 24. No violations.

Subway, 600 N.E. Coronado Drive, inspected July 23.

• No soap at the handwashing sink in the prep area. Correct by Sept. 21.

• Handles of the oven had accumulation of dried food debris. Sticker residue on metal pans. Correct by Sept. 21.

Bob Evans Farms, 1117 N. Missouri 7, inspected July 24.

• Cold, potentially hazardous foods were not held at 41*F or below. Re-inspection required. Some of the foods as follows: barbecued chicken 56F; Macaroni and cheese 53F; tomatoes 48F. Out-of-temp foods were discarded.

• The storage racks in the walk-in cooler had a build up. Correct by Sept. 20.

• Failed to provide valid food handler permits for 14 employees. Correct by Aug. 21.

Miller Theatres Blue Springs 8, 1901 N.W. Missouri 7, inspected July 24.

• Interior of the ice machine was dirty. Corrected. Air fryer baskets had a thick accumulation of buildup. Corrected. Utensils and utensil basket had grease and dry food debris on them. Corrected.

• Bag of popcorn was stored on the floor next to the popcorn machine. Correct by Sept. 22.

• Single-service items were stored on the floor in the upstairs and downstairs storage rooms. Correct by Sept. 22.

• There were no chemical test strips available to test sanitizing solution. Correct by Sept. 22.

• Hand-washing sink was being used to clean utensils. Corrected.

Back Yard Burgers, 1900 N.W. Missouri 7, inspected July 24. No violations.

• Dirty knives were stored as clean. Corrected. Knives were washed and sanitized.

• There were missing/damaged tiles in the dishwashing area. There were missing/damaged tiles under the prep/make table area. Correct by Sept. 29.

• There was a steady leak under the prep sink. Correct by Sept. 29.

• The area behind the fryer had a buildup of grease. Correct by Sept. 29.

• Failure to provide valid food handler cards for 13 employees. Correct by Aug. 30.

• The floors throughout the facility had food debris. Correct by Sept. 29.

• There was a ceiling tile missing near the back door. Repeat. Correct by Sept. 29.

Jack in the Box, 808 N. Missouri 7, inspected Aug. 2.

• The interior of the microwave had a buildup of food debris. Repeat – reinspection required. The nozzles on both soda fountains were dirty. Correct immediately.

• A spray bottle of chemical cleaner was stored by single-service items and above foods. Corrected.

• Handle to the ice scoop was stored with handle touching the ice. Repeat. A cup was being used to scoop coffee with no handle. Correct by Sept. 29.

• The floors throughout the entire kitchen/storage areas had a buildup of trash, grease and food debris. Repeat. Storage drawers for coffee and ice cream toppings were dirty with food debris. The area above the bread warmer and prep table had an accumulation of dust and dirt. Correct by Sept. 29.

• Failure to provide valid food handler cards for all employees. Correct by Aug. 30.

Walmart Neighborhood Market, 1700 N.W. Missouri 7, inspected Aug. 2. No violations.

Simply Frosted, 1121 W. Main St., inspected Aug. 2.

• Open case of single-service items was stored on the floor. Corrected.

• The back splash on the mixers had dry food debris. Correct by Oct. 1.

• Food-handler permits were not available at today’s inspection. Owner will send to inspector within 30 days to avoid re-inspection and $105 re-inspection fee.

The Keg, 1123 W. Main St., inspected Aug. 2. No violations.

Bean Counter Cafe, 27610 E. Wyatt Road, inspected Aug. 2.

• Food worker was observed handling raw lettuce for a salad with bare hands. Corrected. Lettuce was discarded. Owner discussed with cook the requirement to wash hands and put on gloves before touching ready-to-eat foods.
