Police took one person into custody after they recovered a gun on school district property after the first day of school Wednesday.

The gun was in the parking lot of the Centennial Pool-Plex, across the street from Blue Springs High School, high school principal Tom Alderman said, and the person arrested was not a district student.

In a letter emailed to school families, Alderman said police received a report of a person with a weapon in the parking lot of the aquatic center. City and district police officers and school administrators responded, and officers quickly found a handgun and arrested a person.

Alderman said the case remains under investigation and that the high school campus will have additional security during that time.
