A free community workshop for help with Jackson County property tax appeals will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Disabled American Veterans building at 14605 E. U.S. 40, on the Independence-Kansas City border.
Several Realtors, brokers and former Board of Equalization members will be on hand to provide step-by-step tips on how to prepare for an appeal to the Jackson County Board of Equalization. Thanks to a few extensions by the board, the deadline to appeal property valuations with the county is Sept. 3. Citizens are asked to bring documentation from the county and a friend or neighbor.
The property tax appeal workshop is sponsored by Kansas City Council Member and former state Rep. Brandon Ellington, the Westside Neighborhood Association, Share The Love Hour, 100 Men of Blue Hills & Gwen Goins, Prosperity Home Mortgage and the Greater Kansas City Association of Black Real Estate Professionals.
