Make-A-Wish surprised William Chrisman student Javan Cruz, center in sunglasses, with a limousine ride and shopping spree Thursday. Three years ago at Pioneer Ridge Middle School, then 12-year-old Cruz collapsed and went into cardiac arrest – seven times in all before he began to recover in the hospital – but the quick action started by substitute nurse Dee Dee Arps and other school personnel saved his life. Cruz had a defibrillator and a pacemaker implanted soon after his cardiac arrest, and he has had several hospital stays since then because of his heart condition. [Photo submitted]
