Independence Police issued citations after a road-rage confrontation Wednesday afternoon led to one shot fired and one minor injury.

The incident happened on the 15300 block of East 23rd Street in Independence, west of Lee's Summit Road. Police responded to a call of shots fired and found a man and a woman in a parking lot – the woman with a minor wound to her leg that police could not determine for sure was a gunshot wound.

Those subjects and two others from another vehicle that fled the scene had been been in a road rage case and had a verbal altercation, and one of the fleeing subjects fired a shot into the ground. Police later located the other two subjects in the vehicle that had fled the scene.

Police said one person from each vehicle would receive a citation for disorderly conduct and the person with a gun would receive a citation for unlawful discharge of a weapon.
