Workers from the city of Independence and Hagood Construction and Old Fashion Cabins began Monday morning to take apart the Pioneer Spring Cabin, which has been at the corner of Noland and Truman roads since 1974, so it can be rebuilt on the grounds of the National Frontier Trails Museum. Aaron Hagood said he has period logs to replace current parts that are no longer usable, and the new cabin will be on pier stumps to allow for appropriate airflow underneath. Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Eric Urfer said staff has slightly adjusted where the cabin will be reconstructed, in lieu of drainage concerns. The $75,000 reconstruction project should be completed before winter. [Mike Genet/The Examiner]
