Members of the University of Central Missouri Army ROTC program fold an 1877 U.S. flag once owned by Harry Truman. He gave it to his nephew, Fred Truman, who in 1932 attended what was then Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg, Mo. Fred Truman gave it to the university in 1948. UCM is researching the 38-star flag’s history and plans to encase it in a custom-made box with a clear covering so visitors can see it at the McClure Archives and University Museum, on the first floor of the James C. Kirkptatrick Library. Assisting with the ceremonial folding on Sept. 6 were ROTC cadets, clockwise from lower left, Cris Melgar, Gunner Ryals, Adam McClain, Thomas Reinhardt, Matt Lorraine, Max Mays and Kathleen Henning.
