HOWLoween stops along the trail will include birds of prey displays, Track or Treat, the BoneYard, the Bat Cave, games and crafts. All ages welcome to connect with nature in not-so-scary ways. Feel free to come in a costume.

Enchanted Forest: 7 to 9 p.m., George Owens Nature Park, 1601 S. Speck Road, 816-325-7115. Generations of Independence families treasure this non-scary Halloween hike through the woods. It gets better every year, with new storybook skits, elaborate costumes, fire-breathing dragons, pirate ships, and castles. Admission is $3 per person for those 2 years and older. Chicago & Alton Depot (1926): 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Central Park at Walnut and Smith just south of downtown Blue Springs. Admission is $3, and $2 for seniors and military, $1 for ages 6 to 12, free for 5 and younger.

Truck-or-Treat: Noon to 3 p.m., Independence Center, 18801 East 39th St. S. Dress in your Halloween costume and trick-or-treat at huge trucks including a 65-ton Rotator, a Howitzer, a dump truck and other monsters vehicles. Live entertainment, prizes and goodies will be available. This event is free and open to the public.

Critter feeding: 3 p.m., Burr Oak Woods, 1401 N.W. Park road, Blue Springs, 816-228-3766. Watch as the amphibians, fish and turtles are fed every Wednesday and Saturday. Snakes will also be fed every other week.

Victorian Funeral Customs: 5 to 8 p.m., Vaile Mansion, 1500 N. Liberty St., Independence. Learn about the macabre and strange funeral customs of the Victorians and visit with Bram Stoker, author of “Dracula.” Tickets are $25 for 2 people, $15 for 1 person, and are available at the door or via EventBrite.
