The Jackson County Environmental Health Division inspects sites where food is served outside independence and Kansas City. Recent inspection results in Blue Springs include:

Waffle House, 1500 N.W. Woods Chapel Road, inspected Sept. 27.

• The ice machine had a buildup of residue on the inside and on the ice shield. Corrected on site.

•The reach-in coolers had an accumulation of food residue on the bottom.

•The concentration of sanitizer in the bucket was far too strong and needed diluting. Corrected on site.

• The back room and walk-in cooler had an accumulation of debris on the floor.

• The compartment housing the trash can had an excessive accumulation of debris and food residue.

China Kitchen Chinese Restaurant, 1108 N.W. Woods Chapel Road, inspected Sept. 27.

• The inside handles of some pans had a heavy accumulation of food debris. (Not a food-contact surface.)

• Box of single-service cups stored on the floor. Corrected on site.

• Numerous locations where employee food was stored with food that is intended for customers.

• Multiple cans that had severe dents on the bottom and top seams. Corrected on site.

• The walk-in cooler had food debris and trash on the ground. Corrected on site.

Las Playas, 1016 N.W. Woods Chapel Road, inspected Sept. 27.

• Ceiling tiles and air vents have a heavy accumulation of dust and grease.

• The hood vents had a very heavy accumulation of grease which was dripping onto food contact surfaces. Corrected on site.

• The scoop used for tortilla chips had a heavy accumulation of grease buildup. Corrected on site.

• The mechanical dishwasher was not sufficiently producing chemical sanitizer solution. Corrected on site.

• The wire reacks in the reach-in cooler had an accumulation of debris. The wire racks in the reach in cooler were also corroded and unable to be properly cleaned.

• Frozen beef was observed to be thawing in a bucket of still water. The manager moved the bucket to the sink and began running water on it. Corrected on site.

• Handwashing sink in the kitchen area has accumulation of dirt/food debris.

• Multiple cans were left stored in the reach-in cooler within the original containers and left opened.

• The handwashing sink sealing was in disrepair.

Fazoli’s, 810 W. U.S. 40, inspected Oct. 1.

• The mechanical dishwasher was not working properly. Corrected on site.

• The underside of the wire racks in the walk-in cooler had an accumulation of debris and residue.

• The top of the dishwasher had an accumulation of crumbs and food debris.

• The cool air return vent had an accumulation of grease and dust.

Lufti’s Fried Fish, 794 S.W. US 40, inspected Oct. 1.

• The hood vents had an excessive buildup of grease.

• The sanitizer solution was not a strong enough concentration. Corrected on site.

McDonald’s, 814 N. Missouri 7, inspected Oct. 1. No violations found.

Hy-Vee Meat/Seafood/Deli, 625 W. US 40, inspected Oct. 2. No violations found.

Valley View High School, 5000 N.W. Valley View Road, inspected Oct. 3.

• Multiple cans were found to have significant dents on the top and/or bottom seams. Corrected on site.

Denny’s, 1105 N. Missouri 7, inspected Oct. 7. No violations found.

Timothy Lutheran Ministries, 301 S.W. Wyatt Road, inspected Oct. 7.

• A box of single use utensils were stored on the floor.

• Unable to obtain food handler permits for two employees.

Mooreland Ridge Middle School, 900 S.W. Bishop Drive, inspected Oct. 7.

• The back door had a gap in the frame between the bottom edge of the door and the floor.

• A box of sealed bags of cheese was stored on the floor directly below the condenser for the walk-in cooler. The condenser was dripping condensate on the box. Corrected on site.

• There was a severely dented can in dry storage. Corrected on site.

Liggett Trail Education Center, 3575 S.W. Liggett Road, inspected Oct. 7. No violations found.

Plaza Heights Christian Academy, 1500 S.W. Clark Road, inspected Oct. 7.

• The can opener had an accumulation of debris built up. Corrected on site.

Franklin Smith Elementary School, 1609 S.W. Clark Road, inspected Oct. 7. No violations found.

Thomas Ultican Elementary School, 1812 N.W. Vesper, inspected Oct. 7.

• Serving spoons were stored with the handles down.

Blue Springs High School, 2000 N.W. Ashton Drive, inspected Oct. 9.

• Multiple cans were found with dents on either the top/bottom or side seams. Corrected on site.

• Crates of milk and orange juice were stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler. Corrected on site.

Freshman Center, 2103 N.W. Vesper, inspected Oct. 9.

• Multiple boxes and crates filled with food items were stored on the floor in the walk-in freezer. Corrected on site.
