A Blue Springs man has been fined $25,000 and ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution for illegally hunting in Nebraska over three years.
Rodney Owen, 57, also was sentenced last week in federal court in Nebraska to five years probation. He pleaded guilty in August to illegal hunting and wildlife trafficking.
According to court documents, Owen traveled to Nebraska in the falls from 2015 through 2017 and hunted illegally. He and employees from Hidden Hills Outfitters went on hunts andkilled deer near bait locations, a violation of Nebraska law, and Owen took the illegally killed deer to a Missouri taxidermist. Owen also killed a jackrabbit and antelope during hunts without required permits.
Court documents also said Owen submitted two hunt videos with false claims of a hunt to Drury Outdoors, a video production company, and received $3,800 for the videos.
The restitution will go toward the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
