Northern Boulevard UMC event Saturday

The Annual Chili Meal and Bake Sale is scheduled for Saturday at Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church, 1800 S. Northern Blvd, Independence.

Baked goods will go on sale at 9 a.m. The chili and soup meal will begin at 11 a.m. Both events will be open until 5 p.m. Enjoy chili or soup, desserts, and beverages for $9 (children under age 5 are free).

A “Silent Night Silhouettes Painting” event will also occur from 2 to 4 p.m. Painters will have the choice of several materials to use. This project is easy enough for all ages and skill levels. $15 per canvas.


‘Social Media for Seniors’ this Saturday

Ascension Lutheran Church is holding “Social Media for Seniors” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 4900 Blue Ridge Blvd.

The event it free. A lunch will be provided, also without charge, to persons attending. The presentation will address issues ranging from the use of Facebook, email and the internet to questions about the ways in which to operate phones and other electronic devices.

Church Women United hosts Christmas Bazaar

The annual Church Women United Christmas Bazaar will occur from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Second Baptist Church, 116 E. White Oak St., Independence.

Admission is free. There will be crafts and baked goods for sale as well as a chili lunch. Proceeds will go to support scholarships for students from the Independence area.

Calvary Baptist honors veterans

Calvary Baptist Church presents a “Military Recognition Service” at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, at 1915 N. Liberty, Independence. Rev. Jonathan Wallenbeck (retired), USAF, will be the guest speaker.

A reception will be held following the service. All are invited to share in this celebration of veterans and current military personnel.


Stone Church Sunday Services

The theme for the worship service at Stone Church this Sunday is “God of All Living.”

The church, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, will hold Sunday school classes at 9 a.m. and Sunday worship Sunday. Grief care, divorce care classes offered

The Timothy Lutheran Church presents “DivorceCare: Surviving the Holidays” from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at 425 R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs.

Topics include: “Why the Holidays are Tough,” “What Emotions to Expect,” “How to Plan and Prepare,” and “Using the Holidays to Help You Heal.”

Country, Gospel concert planned

The First Baptist Church of Independence is working to restore its historic 1896 sanctuary. As a fundraiser for this restoration, the church is presenting a country and gospel concert on Nov. 16, at 7 p.m., 500 West Truman Road.

Featured artists will be Nate Dean and the FBC Praise Team. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or via the church’s app: Children under the age of 16 will be admitted without charge.

St. Cyril’s chili dinner, bake sale

St. Cyril’s Altar Society will offer dine-in and carry-out chili dinners at 11 a.m. Nov. 17 at 11231 Chicago, Sugar Creek. An ethnic bake sale will occur along with the chili dinner, featuring nut rolls and other baked treats. Dine-in chili meals (with drink and dessert) will be $7 for adults and $4 for children.
