Critter feeding schedule: 3 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and every other Friday at the nature center. Discover what’s for dinner as the captive amphibians, fish and turtles enjoy their feast every Wednesday and Saturday. The snakes are fed every other Friday. No registration required. All ages.

Backyard birds and hike: 10 to 11 a.m., Dec. 7. Come learn about the birds in our backyards. Weather dependent, we will go outside to explore the nearby woods for cool bird species. No registration required. All ages.

Holiday nature craft: Noon to 2:30 p.m., Dec. 7. Craft up some fun using nature-made materials. Walk in any time between noon and 2:30 p.m. to complete two on-your-own crafts. No registration required. All ages.

Bird feeder bonanza: 10 to 11 a.m., Dec. 11. Learn about our Missouri birds and make a feeder to take home with you. Registration required for youngsters only (ages 3 to 5 with an adult).

Families Xplor Winter Night Hike: 6:30 to 8 p.m., Dec. 12. A cold winter night is a great time to get out and explore the wonders of nature. Registration required. Designed for families with children ages 6 to 13.

Navigating with map and compass: noon to 3 p.m., Dec. 14. Put away smartphones and learn to navigate through the woods the old-school way. This program will present the basics of topographic maps, a baseplate compass and how to use both tools to travel from point to point. Bring a water bottle and dress for trekking off trail. Registration required for each person attending. Ages 10 and older are welcome. Ages 10 to 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Super suet Saturday: 1 to 2:30 p.m., Dec. 14. Suet is a super food that can help attract many winter birds to your yard. You will make suet to take home for your feathered friends. Registration is required. Designed for ages 18 and older.

Backyard forest: 11 a.m. to noon, Dec. 21. Learn how to create a forest in your own backyard. No registration required. All ages.

Nature Film Festival: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 21. Films featuring the fish, forests and wildlife found right here in Missouri. There will also be other nature movies and short documentaries throughout the day. No registration. All ages.

Rockin’ & Readin’ Nature Tales: 11 a.m. to noon, Dec. 28. A story hour discussing birds, mammals and all sorts of magnificent creatures. No registration required. All ages.
