1 City theater shows – Both Independence and Blue Springs community theater groups have the second weekend of shows. Children's Theatre of Independence is putting on “Annie Jr.” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sermon Center, 201 N. Blue Springs City Theatre is putting on “Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge” at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Blue Springs Civic Center at Blue Springs High School, 2000 N.W. 2 Puppets Christmas – Saturday at Puppetry Arts Institute, 11025 E. Winner Road, Independence, presents “Coming Up Christmas,” a holiday revue by resident puppeteer Kraig Kensinger. Show times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Puppet pals share talent in a festive holiday revue, with yuletide songs and merry tales bringing the magic of Christmas alive. 3 Visit from Father Christmas – 2-4 p.m., Saturday, National Frontier Trails Museum, 318 W. Pacific Ave., Independence. The museum will be full of holiday cheer when Father Christmas comes to visit. Fun for all ages, including holiday crafts, old-fashioned toys and a hot cocoa bar. The event is included with regular museum admission ($6 adults, $5 seniors 62-older, $3 children 6-17, free for children 5-younger).

 

4 Movie on the Turf – 7:30 p.m., Friday, Blue Springs Fieldhouse, 425 N.E. Mock Ave. Watch the movie “Home Alone” on the big screen while sitting or lying on the turf. Blankets and pillows are encouraged, but no chairs. Snacks and hot cocoa will be provided. Cost is $8 per person (children 2-younger or free). 5 “Fort Osage by Candlelight” – 4:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Saturday, Fort Osage National Historic Landmark, 107 Osage St., Sibley. Experience the celebration of a frontier Christmas through this unique nighttime adventure. Live the holidays through the eyes of soldiers, officers, government agents and civilians at the Fort. The Fort Osage Education Center will provide a welcoming warming spot and additional activities for you and your family to enjoy.
