Grain Valley Police urge citizens and business to protect their mail from theft and be wary of bad checks, following a recent string of reported forged business checks.

Police said one or more unknown people are apparently recruiting homes individuals to cash forged checks at area banking establishments. A Grain Valley business reported it had mail stolen that included checks, and those checks had been forged and cashed for more than $25,300, police said. Checks had been cashed in Overland Park, Kansas, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Warrensburg and Higginsville.
