1 Christmas in the Park – Jackson County's 32nd annual holiday lights display runs through Tuesday at Longview Campground, 1499 S.W. County Park Road, Lee's Summit. The free drive-through display includes more than a half-million lights, 175 animated figures and splashes of color. The display runs 5:30-10 p.m. Thursday and Sunday-Tuesday and 5:30-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Donations for local charities are accepted. Call 816-503-4800 for more information.

 

2 Holiday season lights tours – It's the last few days of tours for decked out historic sites in Independence, running through Monday. The Bingham-Waggoner Estate, 313 W. Pacific Ave.; Vaile Mansion, 1500 N. Liberty St.; and 1859 Jail and Marshal's Home & Museum, 217 N. Main St. are open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and Monday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday, with admission at all three sites. The Chicago & Alton Depot, 318 W. Pacific St., next to National Frontier Trails Museum, is open for tours 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m.-4:15 p.m. Sunday.

 

3 Nature film festival – 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center, 1401 N.W. Park Road, Blue Springs. A walk-in event open to all ages. Featuring the fish, forests and wildlife found in Missouri, with nature movies and short documentaries.

 

4 Frosty Skate – At 11 a.m., each day Thursday-Sunday, Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence will be transformed into a winter wonderland rink for skaters, with lights, themed decorations and Christmas music. Saturday's hours will be at the Independence Community Ice. Admission is $8, with $3 for skate rental (non-skaters/spectators are free, as are children 3-younger and seniors 65-older).

 

5 Warm from the Oven: Cinnamon Rolls – 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Mid-Continent Public Library Blue Springs South Branch, 2220 S. Missouri 7, with presenter Richard King. Create made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls in this step-by-step class that will take you from making the dough to creating icing. Participants will take home a pan of rolls to bake.
