A Thursday morning fire damaged a northern Independence home, though all occupants got out quickly and without injury.
Firefighters were called for a basement fire at 6:21 a.m. to the 2200 block of North Liberty Street, and the caller reported everyone was out of the home. Firefighters arrived at 6:25 a.m. and had the fire out within 10 minutes. Crews from four stations responded to the scene.
Fire personnel said the occupants did not request Red Cross assistance, though firefighters did have to cut a hole in the roof for smoke ventilation.
