Last year’s repeatedly heavy rainfall was among the highest ever recorded in Kansas City.

The National Weather Service recorded 53.21 inches of precipitation in 2019, which is 14.35 inches above average. That’s the fourth highest on record. The most on record is 60.25 inches in 1961, followed by 55.26 inches in 1973 and 53.5 inches in 2001.

The Weather Service has 131 years of Kansas City records, dating to 1889. Since 1972, official measurements have been taken at Kansas City International Airport

Last year’s highest temperature was 97 on July 19 and 20, and the lowest was minus 6 on Jan. 30.
