Two seniors from William Chrisman High School were chosen as Students of the Month for January by the Independence Rotary Club.

• Sandra Vazquez is a member of the National Honor Society, has participated in the Math and Physics Institute, and has been awarded a KC Scholars Scholarship.

Sandra has also played in the Symphonic Orchestra, been a member of the student council, and served as an academy ambassador

Outside of school, Sandra is employed at the Northern Tool & Equipment store.

Sandra’s plan is to attend the University of Missouri to study digital media production. She hopes to become a professional digital video editor.

Sandra is the daughter of Maria Nevarez and Israel Vazquez.

• Brock Edwards has been awarded the McCoy Award for Academic Excellence and has participated in the Math and Physics Institute while at Chrisman.

He has also been active in the arts while at Chrisman, singing with both the Blue and Gold Singers and the Concert Chorale, and acting, serving as a stage manager, and directing in school theater productions.

While in high school, Brock has also been a member of the Chrisman tennis team, wrestling team, and the JV football team.

Outside of school, Brock is an active member of the youth group at the East Independence Church of Christ, where he has participated in charity events including Shoes for Refugees, the Hillcrest Walk for the Homeless, and visits to nursing homes in the area.

Brock is employed at the Courthouse Exchange.

Brock’s plan is to begin his college education at the Metropolitan Community College and to then transfer to either the University of Missouri-Kansas City or the University of Central Missouri. He is interested in studying astronomy.

Brock is the son of Don and Peggy Edwards.
