Independence Police are investigating a shooting late Tuesday afternoon that left two people injured, one of them from gunfire.

Police responded to the call shortly after 5 p.m. for shots in the 9600 block of East 25th Terrace, a cul-de-sac off Westport Road in western Independence. Officers found two injured men, one of them with gunshot wounds. That man was hospitalized late Tuesday but in custody because he is a suspect in the incident that led to the shooting, police said. Another injured man also was hospitalized.

Another man at the scene also is in custody, police said. Detectives found surveillance video footage of another man fleeing the scene, police said, but have not determined if that person is a suspect or was simply running from danger.

East 25th Terrace remained taped off near Westport after 8 p.m., and police escorted neighbors back to their homes on the street.
