The Examiner’s Women of Distinction event scheduled for Friday has been postponed until a later date as a precaution due to concerns over the coronavirus.

The fifth annual event, to honor women in Eastern Jackson County, was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center in Independence.

The event has been tentatively rescheduled for April 30 at Stoney Creek.

Independence Mayor Eileen Weir declared a state of emergency in the city because of concerns over the spread of the virus on Thursday.
