Amtrak is reducing service in Missouri amid falling passenger rates due to COVID-19.

Four Missouri River Runner trains cross the state daily, connecting Kansas City and St. Louis, with stops in Independence, Lee’s Summit, Jefferson City and elsewhere.

As of Monday, that will be down to two lines – the 8:15 a.m. train out of Kansas City and the 4 p.m. train that heads west out of St. Louis. That’s the train that stops in Independence at 9:06 p.m.

Amtrak is suspending the morning train out of St. Louis and the afternoon train out of Kansas City.

Amtrak has made other cuts around the county.
