One person died in a three-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon in eastern Independence.

The crash happened about 3:43 p.m., at Little Blue Parkway and 39th Street, near Centerpoint Medical Center.

According to police, the driver of a 2011 Ford Taurus turned left from northbound Little Blue into the path of two southbound pickup trucks, a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1999 Ford F-150. Witnesses said the Taurus driver ran a red light when it turned left.

The Taurus driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene; that person’s name has not been released pending family notification. The Silverado occupants were taken to Centerpoint with minor injuries, and the Ford F-150 driver was not hurt.
