Independence Parks and Recreation closed all basketball, tennis and other courts and the skate park Wednesday as further public health precautions during the coronavirus pandemic.


The latest measure includes basketball, tennis, pickle ball and racket ball courts, as well as the skate park. Trails and walking paths remain open for public use.


Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit have also closed courts and skate parks in their parks systems, though trails and walking paths there and in Grain Valley remain open.


Independence, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Lee’s Summit had all closed playgrounds last week as a public health precaution.


Jackson County Parks + Rec has closed all playgrounds, campgrounds, marinas, historic sites and meeting facilities and the Fred Arbanas Golf Course until May 15. The county parks trails remain open for use.
