Flags to half-staff to honor local firefighter

Flags are at half-staff Monday to honor a fallen Independence firefighter.

Gov. Mike Parson ordered Friday that all United States and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff at all government buildings in Jackson County and at fire houses across the state.

Davis Jameson, 52, an Independence firefighter/hazardous material technician for 23 years, died May 7 after he suffered a medical emergency during a fire call.

A public drive-thru visitation will take place 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cable-Dahmer Arena on East Valley View Parkway in Independence. Following a private service at Speaks Suburban Chapel on 39th Street, a procession starting about 1:30 p.m. will go past Jameson’s firehouse, Station 5, 11301 E. 35th St., before going to Oak Ridge Memory Gardens for a private graveside service.

Scam phone call warning

Jackson County’s 16th Circuit Court is warning citizens of a possible scam attempt involving calls that appear to come from one court’s phone numbers.

Calls from the number 816-881-3934 might also include a recording indicating they are from an inmate in the county jail. The person calling then claims the inmate on whose behalf they’re calling is related or known to the person receiving the call, and asks for money. The caller might also try for personal information that could lead to access to such things as bank accounts.

The court reminds people to never give money or provide personal information when you receive an unsolicited phone call.
