Independence firefighter Justin Selsor salutes as the vintage fire truck carrying the casket of his fallen colleague, David Jameson, passes Station 5 on 35th Street before heading to the cemetery Monday. Jameson, who would have turned 53 this week, died May 7 after he suffered a medical emergency at the scene of a fire call.

The honor guard of the Independence Fire Department surrounds the casket, and Rick Webb of the Independence 76 Fire Company non-profit group is driving the vintage truck, which also delivered the casket to Cable-Dahmer Arena for Sunday’s public drive-thru visitation. Visitors were able to see Jameson’s casket, through the glass, with his gear next to it. Fire vehicles from numerous agencies participated in a procession around the arena after Sunday’s visitation.

Gov. Mike Parson had ordered Friday that all United States and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff at all government buildings in Jackson County and at fire houses across the state Monday in honor of Jameson.
