The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate a wreck that killed two Independence boys – ages 6 and 7 – on Blue Mills Road in rural northeastern Jackson County.
The 7-year-old was at the wheel of a 2007 Buick Lacrosse Friday afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and had crossed a field before getting onto the road. The boys were in their grandparents’ car, taken from their home nearby, the Highway Patrol said.
The boys – neither identified by the Highway Patrol – then headed east on Blue MIlls Road near Perrin Road, east of Twyman Road. The car went off the road to the right and became airborne, then struck a guardrail, hit the ground, became airborne again, then struck a guy wire, began to overturn, hit a tree, landed on its top and burst into flames. The boys were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a gofundme.com page set up for the family, the boys had been in their grandparents’ care.
