Steinmeyer, Hobart best council choices
Bob Sorensen, president, Independence Lagers Retirees
To the editor:
As president of the Independence, Missouri Lagers Retirees – Chapter 1, I would like to take this opportunity to ask the citizens of Independence to support Mike Steinmeyer and Dan Hobart for the City Council.
Our group represents over 1,300 retired employees and their spouses. In this past year, our group had to deal with the city in regard to our health benefits that were promised to us at retirement. The city had proposed to defund the health insurance for those over 65 years old. Through negotiations with the city, and the support of our members, we were able to reach an agreement with the city that protected our promised benefit and also saved the city a large amount of money.
We, as retired employees of the city, ask you to support Mr. Steinmeyer and Mr. Hobart for the City Council. We believe that both of these candidates would be a great benefit to the city, citizens of Independence, as well as the retirees. Please vote on June 2, 2020.
Hobart knows the city, would serve well

To the editor:
The city of Independence will be holding its city elections on June 2 to determine who represents the City Council in the Third District and the Fourth District.
In the Fourth District Dan Hobart is the clear choice to represent its patrons for the next four years. Dan grew up in Independence and attended all three levels of education – elementary school, middle school and Truman High School. After graduating from Truman, Dan attended Graceland University earning a bachelor’s degree in history. Armed with this background Dan then enrolled in the Drake University Law School, earning his juris doctorate degree, and began launching his legal career. He now is in private practice.
As a youth Dan grew up the scouting program, first as a Cub Scout earning Cub Scout’s highest award – the Arrow of Light. He then transitioned into the Boy Scout program, earning Scouting’s highest honor – the rank of Eagle Scout. He is also a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, an honor camping program within the overall scouting program.
Dan brings a wealth of knowledge as a candidate for our City Council. He understands history as a backdrop for the City Council position. He understands and has an in-depth knowledge of the city and where the path forward for better days should be placed and how those better days can benefit all the citizens of our city.
Dan will bring a fresh face and an intelligent mind to our city council and the ability to look ahead with forethought and a vision for the future. He knows how to work with people to get things done in a positive way and to think objectively.
Being from Independence and now being active in Independence, Dan is a welcoming beam that will bring the right kind of integrity and leadership to our city council – which most of you know it sorely needs.
Your vote matters. On June 2, mark your ballot for Dan Hobart – City Council for the Fourth District for greater transparency and accountability in our city government.
