Richard Paul Goodwin, age 84, of Mayview, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
Richard was born July 2, 1937 in Bethel, Kansas to the late Phillip Thomas and Theresa Catherine. He was also preceded by brothers Phillip Jr, Jimmy and Ray Lee, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his special friend of 50 years Nancy Botham.
His lifetime friend Linda Harris, caretaker and friend Angie Wildschuetz and Norman Schmutz and their family, special friend Sheri Crocker and 7 nieces and nephews and their families along with many auction friends and co-auctioneers and Golden Corral friends, survives him.
Richard enjoyed auctioneering, teaching himself at 5 years old in the back seat of the car coming home from a sale with his dad and buying junk piles to scrap. He grew up on his family farm, presently Royals Stadium, where he would say proudly that he milked cows where home plate is. He had a paper route rolling and throwing papers before and after school. Richard purchased his first tractor and implements from a farmer where Adams Mark Hotel is located. When Richard was a teen boy, he purchased his first property on Booth St. He also had a furniture delivery truck route and he enjoyed when his dad would ride with him. Richard was very friendly and got to know everyone he met everywhere he went. He was proud he had one of the first rollbacks in his area and helped people when they were broke down on the road.
Richard enjoyed the last couple of years traveling and sightseeing. He had always wanted to do this and visited 28 states. One of his last trips was to Knoxville, Iowa where he was able to enjoy seeing his brother Ray Lee Racing honors in the Hall of Fame and was excited to see his name mentioned in Ray Lee’s biography. Richard enjoyed raising Bucket Calves and baling hay. He also took great pride in taking care of his mother and neighbor ladies that needed help. He enjoyed watering bucking stock in the pasture and watching them in bucking events. Took pride in helping watch Axel who he called Roscoe and enjoyed how Axel did things as he did. Richard was proud to go watch his nephew Steve coach basketball and seeing Steve’s kids Grace and Grant play sports and being part of their activities.
A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Nativity Catholic Church, 10021 E 36th Terrace S, and Independence, MO 64052. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM. A committal service will occur at Mt Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64138. Services under the direction of McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home.
