The Grain Valley boys tennis team clinched at least a share of the Missouri River Valley Conference West championship Wednesday when they earned their fourth conference shutout of the year in a 9-0 win over Odessa.
No. 1 singles player Colton Campbell won 8-4, No. 2 Alex Schnurr won 8-5, No. 3 Kellen Holland won 8-2, No. 4 Addison Arnold won 8-0, No. 5 Ethan Caley won 8-1 and No. 6 Andrew Schmitt won 8-0.
In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Campbell and Schnurr won 8-1, the No. 2 team of Holland and Arnold won 8-0 and the No. 3 team of Jake Rogers and Caley won 8-3.
“This assured us of at least a share of the conference title. It is a really nice thing,” Eagles coach Randy Draper said. “We can win it outright in a week. You are winning a conference in which the team that beat you last year and won conference and returned their top six. You have to feel good about that.”
NORTH KANSAS CITY 8, BLUE SPRINGS 1: No. 1 singles player Blake Summers got the only victory for the Wildcats in a non-conference loss to the Hornets Tuesday.
Summers won his match 10-3.
