After winning the Suburban Big Seven Conference girls soccer title yesterday against Park Hill, Lee’s Summit North avoided a letdown against crosstown rival Lee’s Summit West in a 2-0 victory Tuesday.
About halfway into the first half, Alexis Mitchell and Gianna Palmentere worked a combination in the middle of the field that opened Alexis Mitchell up for a shot from the top of the box that she buried into the side panel of the net to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
With just over a minute left, Joanie Westcoat drove a ball forward from midfield that landed past the Lee’s Summit West backs and Lilli Davis snuck through to finish the chance for the final score.
“Through the second half West pushed numbers forward and started driving the ball into the box,” North coach Ryan Kelley said. "Our backs did a good job tracking their runners and clearing the ball. The best chance for Lee’s Summit West came off a corner that Kara Privetera headed right at Sarah Peters. We held on and defended well in the second half to earn the victory tonight.”
Peters notched ninth shutout of the season for the Broncos (16-3, 10-1 Big Seven).
LONE JACK 3, VAN HORN 2: Host Lone Jack scored with 12 seconds left to edge Van Horn in a non-conference game Tuesday.
Gracie Ankrom scored both goals for the Falcons.
LIBERTY 9, TRUMAN 0: Truman dropped to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the Suburban Big Six with a road loss at Liberty Tuesday.
PLEASANT HILL 8, OAK GROVE 1: Oak Grove dropped to 12-9 overall and 0-7 in the MRVC West with a conference road loss at Pleasant Hill Tuesday.
Carlee Doss scored the lone goal for the Panthers.
RAYMORE-PECULIAR 3, BLUE SPRINGS 2: Two goals from Abigail Grisolano wasn’t enough as Blue Springs was edged by Ray-Pec Monday at Peve Stadium.
The Wildcats dropped to 4-14 overall.
