The Grain Valley boys tennis team met its match in the Class 2 District 9 Tournament.

The Eagles fell 5-0 to host and top-seeded Columbia Rock Bridge in the semifinals of the team tournament Tuesday afternoon.

“They’re just really, really good,” Eagles coach Randy Draper said of the defending state team champion Bruins. “I really liked the way we played and the kids understand that. We could have been the No. 2 seed but all the teams 2 through 4 were about the same and we got the 4 seed.”

The No. 3 doubles team of Hunter Quintrell and Joel Florida came the closest to a win, falling 8-5.

The Eagles will play the individual district tournament starting at 9 a.m. Saturday in Columbia.
