Blue Springs High School graduate Darrian Miller scored on a 50-yard kickoff return and a 3-yard run and former Truman Patriots back O.J. Simpson added a 28-yard touchdown reception from Derrick Bernard, but their efforts were not enough to lead the Kansas City Phantoms to their second win of the season Saturday night in Omaha.
The 1-8 Phantoms could manage just 126 yards of total yardage and fell 37-29 to the Omaha Beef.
The Phantoms trailed 17-16 at halftime, but a 14-0 Omaha fourth quarter was too much for the struggling first-year team to overcome.
The Phantoms return to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena at 7:05 p.m. Saturday to play host to the Bismarck Bucks. The final three games are at home.
Simpson finished the game with two receptions for 33 yards and Miller had six carries for eight yards. Bernard, who joined the team two weeks ago, completed just 5 of 16 passes with the touchdown pass to Simpson and three interceptions.
