The Blue Springs South boys tennis team ran into Rockhurst a second straight day.
A day after Rockhurst ended the run for two Jaguar doubles teams in individual sectionals, the Hawklets ended South’s run in the Class 2 team sectionals with a 5-0 win Thursday afternoon at Bennett Park in Liberty.
“Our guys played pretty well, but Rockhurst is a solid team all the way down their lineup,” Jaguars coach Nathan Mooney said. “Sean (Nguyen) and Chase (Klosener) were both playing really well.”
Klosener was leading 5-4 in his No. 4 singles match with Graham Colombo when Rockhurst reached the necessary five wins to stop the dual.
Nguyen lost the first set 6-3 but was tied 2-2 with Colin Klumb in their No. 1 singles match when the match was halted.
Rockhurst swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. Nguyen and Dalton Michael fell 8-2 to Klumb and Henry Goeke at No. 1. Brady Dunlap and Wyatt Walker (8-0) and Klosener and Patterson Fallis (8-1) also fell.
Michael was stopped 6-0, 6-1 by Donovan Walsh in No. 3 singles, and Walker lost by the same score to Owen Dixon at No. 5 to end the match.
Dunlap and Fallis were also trailing in their No. 2 and No. 6 matches when it ended.
