The Lee’s Summit Outlaws came up on the short end of a pitcher’s duel in their final game of pool play in the American Legion Wood Bat Invitational during a 1-0 loss to Jefferson City Post 5 Friday at Hidden Valley Park.
Jefferson City won on a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning off starting pitcher Ryan Suhlaski, who gave up just one earned run on three hits and struck out one batter.
Hayden Bradford, Justin Root and Justin McEnroe all got hits for the Outlaws.
“Their hits were just better placed than ours,” Outlaws manager Mark Bradford said. “This was a really well-played game by both teams. Their pitcher was really good and had a lot of strikeouts. He’s pitching at Jefferson Community College (in Hillsboro, Mo.) next year.”
The Outlaws (3-1) still earned a wild-card spot in the tournament's quarterfinals Saturday. Post 5 claimed the automatic berth with 3-1 mark and the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Outlaws meet Washington (Mo.) Post 218 at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Hidden Valley Park's Jim Moran Field. Jefferson City meets Longmont (BOCO) at 10 a.m.
