The Blue Springs Rod’s Sports A’s had enough offense to make it to the finals of the Michael Peterson Tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska, Sunday.

But Omaha (Neb.) Skutt had more.

The A’s scored seven runs on 10 hits in the first two innings, but Skutt rallied to claim an 11-8 win in the tournament’s semifinal.

Jake Lufft hit a mammoth first inning home run that smashed the scoreboard in left field to spark the A’s early. He added a double and a single and three RBIs.

Jackson Caley added two doubles, a single and two RBIs, Anthony Gunn doubled and singled and Will Heller had two hits but it wasn’t enough as the A’s dropped to 20-3 overall with a 3-2 mark in the tournament.

On Saturday, the A’s split a pair of pool play games but won their pool with a 3-1 record.

Jake Lufft went the distance, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out seven for the win in a 4-1 victory over Waverly (Neb.) in the first game Saturday.

A hit batter, a walk and a two-base throwing error on a sacrifice bunt scored two runs in the third inning. Gunn’s double drove in the third run of the inning.

The A’s managed just five hits, including doubles by Lufft and Dustin Brewer.

In the second game, the A’s grabbed a 2-0 lead early but fell 3-2 to Papillion (Neb.) South in a game shortened by rain.

Gunn, Jackson Caley and CJ July started the rally with three consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second inning. Two wild pitches allowed Gunn and Jackson to score, but that was all the scoring the A’s could muster.

Papillion South knotted the score in the third inning and then took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth.

Lufft doubled to left center field to start the bottom of the sixth, but a severe storm halted the game.

Colton Best suffered the loss despite holding Papillion South to three runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out two and walked two
