The Blue Springs volleyball team took the first set 25-23 against the Liberty Blue Jays but were unable to finish with a win.

The Blue Jays rebounded for a 25-18, 25-19 non-conference win Tuesday.

“Played solidly in the loss but didn’t have enough to get it done late in sets two and three,” Blue Springs coach Katie Straka said. “We made some great adjustments early to respond to their offense but could not maintain.”

Aliyah Bello finished with a team-high eight kills, and Chloe Kaminski and Niya Harris each had seven for the Wildcats (2-1). Alex Gabbert had 19 digs and Lily Letchworth had 25 assists and 10 digs.

HOLDEN INVITATIONAL: Oak Grove went 3-2 during the Holden Tournament Saturday.

In Game 1, Oak Grove topped Sherwood 25-10, 25-15. Emily Heldenbrand led the Panthers with six kills while Megan Boland and Katie Jennings added four each. Mackenzie Heldenbrand added six assists and Jannings had a team-high six digs.

In Game 2, the Panthers rolled against Skyline 25-13, 25-16. Emily Heldenbrand had a team-high 11 kills, 11 assists, three aces and 12 digs; and Jennings added six kills and nine digs. Kennedy McGinnis had a team-high two blocks.

Oak Grove then played Adrian and fell 28-26, 25-21. Emily Heldenbrand the Panthers with seven kills and Mackenzie Heldenbrand had a team-high six assists.

In Game 4, the Panthers fell to Kansas City lutheran 25-19, 28-26. Emily Heldenbrand had a team-high five kills and seven assists. She also had eight assists and Jenna Engelhard had eight digs and seven assists.

The Panthers played their final game against Holden and won in two sets. Emily Heldenbrand had six kills and eight digs, Jenna Engelhard had 10 digs, Mackenzie Heldenbrand had two aces and Megan Boland had two blocks.
