Truman softball coach Dan Harper likes the way his team competes after it gets down.

Trailing 1-0 to Liberty North in their Suburban Large Seven opener Tuesday, the Patriots erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning on the way to an 8-4 win over the host Eagles.

Myel White provided the big hit in the inning, a three-run double down the first-base line with the bases loaded.

“I am very pleased with the way the girls have been able to bounce back after getting down early,” Harper said after his team improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. “I just love watching them compete every day. Getting this opening conference win is huge to set the tone for the rest of the season.”

Kara Amos allowed just five hits, a walk and two earned runs while striking out five in a complete-game victory.

Kennedy Rucker went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Patriots. Chloe Armstrong and Katie Sutton each added two hits, Amos helped herself with a hit and an RBI and Michaela Arnzen had two RBIs.
