The Van Horn football team had little trouble remaining undefeated.

The Falcons raced to a 38-0 halftime lead on the way to a 58-0 rout of host Kansas City (Kan.) Bishop Ward Friday.

Devontae Telar rushed for three touchdowns and the Falcons scored three defensive touchdowns to improve to 3-0 overall.

“Really was a good overall team win,” Van Horn coach William Harris said. “Defense played really physical and aggressive. The O-line was pretty dominant as well.”

Telar got it rolling by running for a 64-yard touchdown with 10:58 left in the second quarter.

Treyvion Page then picked up a blocked punt and returned it for a score to make it 13-0 just over two minutes later.

A Jireh Fualau interception set up the next score. Senior quarterback Shaun Ross scampered 39 yards for a score and a 19-0 lead.

Sobelli Powell scored on a 1-yard run and Telar scored on a 5-yard run. Jason Skivers then made it 38-0 when he picked up a fumble on a punt and returned it for a score with 3:40 left in the first half.

Telar scored on a 15-yard run in the third quarter, and linebacker Isaiah Walton returned an interception for a touchdown with 3:50 left in the third quarter for a 50-0 lead.

MarQuon Whetstone scored on a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

LEE’S SUMMIT WEST 41, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 13: Blue Springs South senior running back Austin Terry went down with a leg injury early in Friday’s Suburban Big Six battle at Lee’s Summit West.

Dakoda Kenig tried to make up for it but the Jaguars were hurt by two fumbles and an interception in the loss to the Titans. The Jaguars dropped to 0-3.

Kenig finished with 140 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn’t enough to overcome West’s big first half and four touchdown passes by Ben Kobel, including three to Trevor Kardell.

The Titans scored 22 points in the second quarter to add to a 12-0 first-quarter lead and took a 34-7 advantage into halftime.

Terry, who had rushed for more than 200 yards in each of the first two games, left after carrying five times for 27 yards.

Max Conard was 20-of-33 passing for 185 yards for the Jaguars. Isaiah Tauai caught nine of those passes for 123 yards.

Kobel was just 9 of 22 but 128 of his 259 passing yards went to Kardell.

LIBERTY 37, TRUMAN 6: Truman couldn’t recover from a 21-0 halftime deficit in a loss to host Liberty Friday.

The Patriots were outgained 456-151 while dropping to 0-3.

Carter Brown threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Donald Edmondson in the fourth quarter to spoil Liberty’s shutout. Brown was 6 of 15 passing for 103 yards.

Liberty held Andrew Owens to 31 yards on seven carries.

Jack Lowery ran for 169 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries to power Liberty.
