Blue Springs’ top duo claimed a title but the Wildcats couldn’t get past three other teams in their own Blue Springs Doubles Tournament Friday.
The Wildcats totaled 19 points to finish behind Barstow (26), Lee’s Summit and Jefferson City (21 each). Grain Valley was fifth with 18 and Lee’s Summit North was seventh with 14.
Caitlyn Sporing and Bentley Walters breezed to a 3-0 record, beating a Barstow team 10-4 in the final of the A flight. The B flight team of sophomore Allie Brown and freshman Malina McGaw took second, going 2-1.
The C team of Jenna Pope and Jamie Bowman and the D team of Dani Madison and Skyla Hamilton each went 1-2.
“We definitely fared well in A and B, and I’m really proud of our young girls in B getting to the final,” Wildcats coach Jody McClain said.
Alyssa Owens and Madison Shield went 2-1 and took third in B flight to lead Grain Valley. The A team of Kendra Sibert and Ryan Deaton finished 1-2, as did the C team of Bailey McKay and Mackensie Wagner.
Ashley Borron and Johnalia Hall went 2-1 to finish third in C flight to lead Lee’s Summit North.
BLUE SPRINGS 9, RAYMORE-PECULIAR 0: The Blue Springs South girls tennis team had little trouble dispatching Suburban Big Six Conference foe Raymore-Peculiar in a shutout victory Thursday.
In singles play, No. 1 player Francesca Klosener won 10-3, No. 2 Kiara Cox won 10-5, Jasmine Tucker won 10-0, Grace Allen won 10-1, Peyton Caldwell won 10-6 and Ashley Cooper won 10-8.
In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of Klosener and Allen won 8-4, Cox and Tucker won 8-3 and Cooper and Natalie Nelson won 8-2.
We've been trying to find a No. 3 doubles combo that works for us, and we really liked what we saw from Natalie and Ashley tonight,” South coach Jake Estep said. “They're both young players that played a lot together over the summer and it showed tonight.”
South’s junior varsity also won 6-3.
