ALLEN, Texas – The Kansas City Mavericks didn’t let a 2-0 deficit halt its winning streak.

Brothers David and Darian Dziurzynski combined for a three goals and an assist to rally for a 5-3 win over the host Allen Americans Friday that extended the Mavericks’ winning streak to five games.

It didn’t appear the Mavericks would extend the streak after the Americans grabbed the early lead with two goals just 23 seconds apart in the first period. David Makowski beat Mavericks goaltender Mason McDonald at the 6:58 mark, and Zach Pochiro struck just 23 seconds later.

The Mavericks took advantage of a cross-checking penalty on Allen’s Spencer Asuchak and cut the deficit to 2-1 when Darian Dziurzynski scored a power-play goal with just 50 seconds left in the first on assists from Rocco Carzo and Willie Raskob.

The Mavericks struck quickly in the second period to grab the lead for good. Greg Betzold scored off assists from Mark Cooper and Neal Goff at the 2:20 mark to tie it. Just 1:09 later, Carzo scored a power-play goal off assists from Cliff Watson and Darian Dziurzynski to put Kansas City ahead.

David Dziurzynski, on assists from C.J. Eick and Jordan Klimek, scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 8:24 mark of the second.

David Dziurzynski scored an empty-net goal at the 18:16 mark of the third period to make it 5-2 before Asuchak scored for Allen with 40 seconds left.

McDonald, who now has a 1.95 goals-against average, stopped 33 shots to improve to 4-0-0-0. The Mavericks improved to 7-1-1-0 (15 points) with a second straight win over Allen and third in three games this season.
