A balanced attack helped the Oak Grove girls basketball team advance to the championship of the Husker Classic.
Summer Collier scored 12 points to lead the Panthers to a 59-50 win over Richmond in the tournament semifinals Wednesday at Lafayette County High School in Higginsville.
“We really shot the ball well; we made nine 3-pointers,” Oak Grove coach Jared Broughton said after his team improved to 2-2 overall. “We had great ball movement and the shared the ball with each other. We also did a good job with our pressure and got some runouts as a result.”
The Panthers grabbed an 18-11 lead after one quarter and extended it to 38-22 by halftime. They held off Richmond’s fourth-quarter rally to advance to Saturday’s 4 p.m. championship game against Odessa or Brookfield.
Mary Delgado added 11 points and Jordan Richards had nine points to help spark Oak Grove.
TRUMAN 52, OLATHE NORTH 48: Truman rallied from a five-point deficit to claim a win over Olathe (Kan.) North Tuesday night in the first round of the Huhtamaki Hardwood Classic at DeSoto (Kan.) High School.
The Patriots trailed 38-33 entering the final period but outscored Olathe North 19-10 in the fourth to improve to 3-1 overall.
Deon Monroe scored 18 points, Rosie Braley added 14 and Becca Gilpin had 10 to lead the Patriots, who meet Mill Valley (Kan.) in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
