Blue Springs South High School is looking for a new football head coach after Jon Oyler resigned Friday following three years leading the Jaguars.

Oyler’s Jaguars finished with a 3-8 record this season, upsetting the No. 2 seed Troy Buchanan in the first round of Class 6 District 2 play before falling 31-21 to crosstown rival Blue Springs in the semifinal.

Oyler finishes with a 12-21 record in his three season as the Jaguars head coach.

Mark Bubalo, activities director for the Blue Springs School District, said Oyler stepped down for personal reasons, as reported first by PrepsKC.com.

"Jon told us he wanted to spend more time with his family – he has three young sons – and you know how much time it takes from your family to be a head coach at the high school level," Bubalo said. "We certainly understand his decision and we appreciate Jon’s hard work and dedication to South and to our student-athletes the last three years as our head coach."

Oyler did not return a call seeking comment.

Oyler, a former two-time all-state linebacker and a graduate of South, had served as the defensive coordinator at Fort Osage under former head coach Ryan Schartz for eight years prior to returning to Blue Springs South as a defensive coordinator prior to the 2013 season. He took over as the South head coach for the 2016 season when Greg Oder retired.

Before heading to Fort Osage, he served as an assistant coach for four years at South under Oder.
