BOISE, Idaho - The Kansas City Mavericks’ offensive woes continued Friday night.
The Mavericks suffered their third loss in five games as the Idaho Steelheads claimed their second win in a three-game series with a 3-0 shutout victory in an ECHL Mountain Division matchup at CenturyLink Arena.
The series wraps up with the third game Saturday evening.
Robbie Payne and Reid Petryk scored first-period power-play goals and goalie Ryan Faragher made them stand for the victory.
Petryk added an insurance second goal in the second period. There were no goals scored in the final 20 minutes.
The Mavericks had just four shots on goal in the first period, being outshot 15-4, and tallied just 21 for the game. Kansas CIty also went scoreless on three power plays.
Losing goalie Ben Halford stopped 26 of 29 Steelhead shots.
The Mavericks, who lost to Idaho 5-1 on Wednesday, dropped to 14-7-1-1 and into fifth place with 30 points in the Mountain Division with the loss. Idaho (14-9-1-2) and the Rapid City Rush (13-11-2-3) vaulted past Kansas City into third and fourth place with 31 points each.
