JEFFERSON CITY — After falling to a tough Jefferson City squad Thursday, the Blue Springs South girls basketball team bounced back and improved to 6-4 overall, defeating Poplar Bluff 44-28 in the consolation bracket of the State Farm Holiday Hoops Invitational at Helias Catholic High School.
The Jaguars will play Blair Oaks at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the consolation finals.
The Jaguars were tied with Poplar Bluff 8-8 at the end of the first period, but went into halftime up 19-12. They extended the lead to 34-19 going into the fourth.
“I felt like we lost the first quarter,” Blue Springs South coach Kory Lower said. “We made just two shots and one right at the buzzer. The coaching staff challenged the girls to play better defensively in the second quarter. We didn’t feel like the girls were playing well defensively. They responded, and we turned the momentum in our favor and carried it into the second half.”
Sophie Lopez led South with 16 points and Seneea Bevley added 11.
