JEFFERSON CITY – Blue Springs South freshman guard Seneea Bevley scored a season-high 20 points but it wasn’t enough in a 57-51 loss to Blair Oaks Saturday in the consolation final of the State Farm Holiday Hoops Invitational at Helias Catholic High School.
The Jaguars led the Falcons 16-11 at the end of the first and were ahead 26-23 at halftime. The Falcons cut South’s lead to 34-33 going into the fourth and outscored the Jaguars 14-13 to send the game into overtime.
Blair Oaks won the overtime period 10-4.
“Blair Oaks is really, really solid,” Jaguars coach Kory Lower said. “They might be a Class 3 school but I think they will be ranked before too long if they aren’t already. They have seven seniors, and they are very good.
“Seneea made a couple of plays at the end of the fourth quarter. She had a layup, then she got a steal and made another layup to tie it with 16 seconds left. She scored four points in four seconds. In overtime, they just made more shots than us. I told the girls I was proud of them. I thought this was one of the best games we’ve played all year.”
Elizabeth Ernsting added 13 points for the Jaguars (6-5).
