WICHITA, Kan. – The Kansas City Mavericks erased a 2-0 deficit Saturday against the Wichita Thunder, but after they tied it, Nolan Vesey broke a tie with a goal at the 13:19 mark in the third period to give the Thunder a 3-2 victory at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Earlier in the third the Mavericks thought they had taken the lead, but the officials ruled the puck hit the post, so no goal. Vesey then put in the game-winner off a wrist shot from the left-wing faceoff circle.

The Thunder took a 1-0 lead just 1:51 into the game on a fluky bounce. Keoni Texeira took a point-blank shot high over the net and the puck deflected off the glass and bounced back over the net and off Mavericks goaltender Nick Schneider and into the net.

Wichita extended its lead to 2-0 when Ralph Cuddemi scored his 15th goal of the season off a power play, with assists going to Dyson Stevenson and Texiera.

Kansas City scored its first goal 4:19 into the second period, as forward Greg Betzold notched his 13th of the season. Betzold scored again with 45 seconds left in the period to tie it at 2-all before Vesey’s game winner.

Schneider stopped 34 of 37 shots for the Mavericks. Wichita won the shots on goal battle 37-32.
